Angélica Garcia
Gemelo is the new album from the songwriter and pop auteur, and the follow-up to her 2020 breakthrough Cha Cha Palace. Gemelo is a vibrant, prismatic hybrid-pop record that soundtracks a journey through the different stages and forms of grief. Angélica explores grief’s inherent loneliness, beauty, and tension, eventually finding liberation. Born East of LA (or El Monte) with Mexican and Salvadoran lineage, Angélica embodies the essence of contemporary America, a cultural landscape continually evolving through its fusion with rich Hispanic influences. In a reflection of modern America itself, Gemelo also marks Garcia’s first album sung almost entirely in Spanish. Produced by Carlos Arévalo of Chicago Batman, the album progresses from tender introspection to intense healing.
She has previously been featured on NPR’s Tiny Desk, NY Times year-end lists, and on Barack Obama’s annual best-of music list for her song “Jícama”.
